No messing from first and fifth seeds at Polson Pier
Were they in a rush? Did they have other appointments? Or maybe they were just itching to start playing at the Swatch World Tour Finals!
Americans April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings and Germans Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude were in sensational form as they blitzed their opponents in double-quick time.
Ross/Walsh Jennings have been on the march on court in 2016, and their goal of winning a 10th medal of the year on the FIVB World Tour began with a crushing win over Bawden/Clancy, restricting the Aussies to just 25 points across the two sets.
Twenty-five was also the amount of points that Italians Menegatti/Giombini mustered in two sets against German Poreč Major heroes Laboureur/Sude.
The Germans’ meteoric rise up the FIVB World Tour ranking meant they arrive at Polson Pier after pipping to two other teams from Germany – Borger/Büthe and Holtwick/Semmler – and the girls weren’t messing around as they put the Italians to the sword in just 32 minutes.
Next up for Laboureur/Sude is a mouth-watering clash against home favorites and new team Bansley/Wilkerson. That game promises to be classic and our live stream cameras will be there to cover it on Center Court at 5.30pm – so make sure you tune in!
