Now in its third season on the sand, the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series arose out of a joint venture between the Austrian Companies Red Bull and ACTS. Red Bull, established in the 1980s by Dietrich Mateschitz, is one of the world’s most famous brands, its direct marketing focusing on sports and lifestyle.
ACTS Group, an agency founded in 1990 by Hannes Jagerhofer, is a full service provider of event-marketing, external communication and online services and famous in the world of sports for its outstanding organizational qualities shown at the Beach Volleyball tournament in Klagenfurt/Carinthia. The collaboration of a worldwide successful brand and an experienced promoter takes Beach Volleyball to a whole new level. Furthermore, another strong partner is on board: Swatch supports the sport and its athletes, being title sponsor of the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series. It displays a cooperation in order to develop Beach Volleyball as the world’s number one summer sports event and to achieve the following vision: “Establish Beach Volleyball as a multimedia sports-entertainment event for athletes, fans and partners.”
In the Series’ first year, in 2015, athletes as well as fans got a first glimpse of what the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series had to offer with tournaments in Poreč in Croatia, Gstaad in Switzerland and Stavanger in Norway before the first ever Swatch World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale.
The 2016 season packed an even bigger punch as four tournament stops - in Hamburg, Poreč, Gstaad and Klagenfurt - wowed passionate crowds throughout Europe before the Swatch World Tour Finals in Toronto in September saw the season end in style.
2017 was even better! The Swatch Major Series went from strength to strength and the 2017 season took in stops at four locations, in the United States, Croatia, Switzerland and Germany.
