Amazing main draw reveal for opening Major Series of the summer
Are you ready for Hamburg?! You better be because the entries for our smart Major Hamburg are now in and we can barely contain our excitement!
Since we unveiled the news that the Swatch Major Series was setting up shop in one of Germany’s best-loved cities we’ve been itching to tell you who’ll be serving and spiking and digging and diving.
And boy what a line-up we’ve got in store. It reads of a who’s who of the great and good in beach volleyball: Alison and Bruno Schmidt, Agatha and Barbara, Gibb and Patterson, Ross and Jennings. Yep, all entered! It’s a glittering array of the game’s top talent.
So our advice is if you’ve got plans between 7-12 June: cancel them. Forget the wedding you’re attending or the holiday you’ve booked. You’re going to Hamburg. Period.
It might sound strange to you but here at Swatch Major Series we love lists – compiling and creating them and indeed, in this case, reading them and jumping for joy. Honestly!
When the entry list came through from the FIVB the one piece of information that drew the most dramatic oohs and ahhs in the office was the tiny “WC” next to the name of Julia Sude and her partner Chantal Laboureur. The German pair, who won silver in Fuzhou last month, will enter the main draw as Wildcards. On German sand, the pair face competition from fellow countrywomen Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst and Karla Borger and Britta Büthe.
All six medal winners from last year’s Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals are in line to grace the sand at Rothenbaum Stadion. All the super stars from Brazil, America, Netherlands, Canada, Austria and Germany are on the list so make sure you keep that week next month free.
Remember the smart Major Hamburg will also be the players’ last chance to earn important Olympic ranking points so it promises to be one – if not the – most exciting and competitive events of the year!
It’s only three weeks until the action gets under way. It’s at times like these you wish you had a time machine. Until then, however, we’ll keep giving you all the news and views ahead of our first Major of the summer, so keep it swatchmajorseries.com and while you’re at it subscribe to our newsletter!
See you soon – at Hamburg, hopefully!
