Guess who’s back on the sand this weekend…
Misty May-Treanor’s return was announced on the AVP Facebook page
You know those moments when you stop everything and your mouth drops wide open in disbelief?
Well that happened today in the Swatch Majors office when we heard the news that three-time Beach Volleyball Olympic champion Misty May-Treanor is set for a shock return to the sand at the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour in New Orleans this weekend.
The American legend of the game is due to partner Jenny-Ann Kropp in the tournament 12 months after she made a return in the same competition alongside Brittany Hochevar. That was Misty’s first competitive action since winning Olympic gold in London in 2012 with then-partner Kerri Walsh Jennings.
May-Treanor, who triumphed in at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics, hinted at a return last week when she tweeted: “See you in a few weeks NOLA!”.
So one of the all-time greats of Beach Volleyball is back on the sand and her return is sure to send shockwaves through the game. But how will she cope? What are her chances of adding yet another gold medal to her collection?
