This week in the sands of the world
It’s Friday and that means one thing: Beach Shorts! And with that, comes a bucket-load of beach volleyball news crammed into one handy article.
We’ve got news of what’s happening in tournaments dotted around the globe, plus info on the next World Championships and, of course, updates on what you might have missed this week – especially the news from Brazil.
So without further ado, let’s get into it!
World Tour business
We start with the FIVB World Tour. This weekend sees the conclusion of a two-star, men-only tournament in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
With a prize kitty of 25,000 US Dollars, the event will be decided over this coming weekend with top-seeded Jyrki Nurminen and Santeri Siren of Finland the favorites to win the Anchor Beach Volleyball Carnival – to give it its official title.
Also in the running for ranking points and prize money are Australia’s Chris McHugh and Max Quehrer, Vaclav Bercik and Jan Dumek of the Czech Republic, Canadian duo Aaron Nusbaum and Michael Plantinga and Russians Maxim Sivolap and Artem Yarzutkin, who won last time out in Kg Speu, the Cambodian one-star event two weeks ago.

Also competing is Mihails Samoilovs, the brother of Aleksandrs, the Lion King, with partner Matiss Gabdullins.
Brazilians head to Natal
This weekend sees the next stop on the Brazilian national tour in Natal as a dramatic week on the sand in the South America.
And one team that won’t be competing together are Alison Cerutti and André Stein, after the duo announced they were going to call time on their partnership after just nine months has teammates. Alison will join Álvaro Filho after the event in Natal, where Álvaro will continue to play with Ricardo Santos. André, meanwhile, will partner George Wanderely.

Also in action in Natal are Americans Summer Ross and Sarah Hughes. Swiss pair Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Heidrich were also in action, winning their qualification match, however and injury to Joana has meant the duo have had to pull out before the main draw gets underway.
World Championships 2021 host announced

Social media: Respectful break-up
Following on from Alison and Andre’s decision to split, we were warmed by the way the two went about their business, with both players trading complements about each other.
Vai a dupla, ficam a amizade e o respeito.

In the Instagram post, the Mammoth says: “I want to thank André for living together, for his commitment and for his partnership over these ten months. We had a dream and we followed the plan. They did not lack dedication, hard work and will ... But things did not happen as we would like, the results did not come and this is the sport. Despite being a young boy, it's almost ten years of difference between us, I learned a lot, there was a lot of change between us, and I started to see beach volleyball in a different way, adapting to this new generation. I'm sad that we did not reach the goals. I wish him all the best, that he has good luck on his way, that he can fulfill his dreams, for he is a good person. I have a great affection for the family and he knows that he can count on me always. Go the pair, stay the friendship and the respect.”
Nice one, Alison.
