The team dominated the eighth stop of their National Tour in Groningnen
World Tour regulars Christiaan Varenhorst and Jasper Bouter enjoyed a weekend of national glory as the duo won the eighth stop of the Dutch Beach Volleyball Tour in Groningen. Marloes Wesselink and Sophie van Gestel prevailed in the women’s tournament.
Varenhorst and Bouter entered the tournament in the quarterfinals and won three straight matches to claim gold in Groningnen. In the final, they upset Dirk Boehlé and Steve van de Velde in three sets (21-18, 24-26, 15-9). Kjeld Broekema and Erik van der Schaaf captured bronze after a straight-set (21-18, 21-18) triumph over Stefan Boermans and Casper Haanapel.

Second title for Mersmann/Tillman and Harms/Bergmann in Germany
In the German Tour, the teams of Teresa Mersmann/Cinja Tillmann and Philipp Arne Bergmann/Yannick Harms confirmed their good form by winning their second titles in the national season in Nürnberg, the city that hosted the fourth stop of the year.
Mersmann and Tillmann came out on top in the women’s tournament with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) victory over Olympic and world champion Kira Walkenhorst and her temporary partner Leonie Körtzinger in the final. Anna Behlen and Sarah Schneider triumphed in the bronze medal match with a 2-1 (21-19, 21-23, 15-8) victory over Sabrina Karnbaum and Natascha Niemczyk.
In the men’s event, Bergmann and Harms defeated Alexander Walkenhorst, Kira’s older brother, and Sven Winter in a three-set battle (15-21, 21-19, 15-8) to claim gold. Paul Becker and Jonas Schröder finished third after they took Peter Wolf and Georg Wolf down in the two-set (21-14, 21-16) bronze medal match.
