Canadian Sarah Pavan has exclusively told beachmajorseries.com that she is ready to quit indoor volleyball and focus solely on gaining success on the sand.

The 31-year-old revealed that she has cut short her contract with Italian indoor side Pomi Casalmaggiore – and that also means she’ll be ready to partner Melissa Humana-Paredes on the beach at the first five-star tournament of 2018, the Fort Lauderdale Major, next month.

“I think I’m done with indoor,” admitted Pavan, whose successful exploits inside has seen her spike around the world at the highest level in Brazil, Italy and China. “I’ve had a really good indoor career; it’s been 21 years of my life – 10 of those as a professional.

“But now I think I’m at the point that I’d like to be in one place more often than not. I’ve left my team in Italy because it wasn’t a good fit. It wasn’t the right place for me in my career right now.

“I’ve seen the opportunities for me and Melissa in beach, and I don’t want those to slip away. I think I’m ready to commit to something that’s deep in my soul – beach volleyball.”

Pavan and Humana-Paredes, who won four medals on the beach World Tour with Melissa last season, including gold in Poreč, would not have competed in Fort Lauderdale had Sarah not decided to head back across to North America early.

“Had I stayed playing indoor I would have missed Fort Lauderdale and the Commonwealth Games but now I will be able to,” confirms Sarah.

“However, as far as indoor is concerned, I’m done. This decision has been in my plan for a while because I’ve known that my career in beach would last longer. I’m excited to think of the possibilities that Melissa and I have.

“I’ve have a great indoor career – but now’s the time for me to focus on beach and, as I’ve said, I’m so excited to see what the future holds with Melissa.”

Pavan and Humana-Paredes, who finished fourth in the both the World Championships and the World Tour Finals in 2017, will attempt to continue where they left off at the end of last season at the Fort Lauderdale Major in Florida between February 27 and March 4.
