If you’re wondering what exactly the Brazilian beach volleyball stars are Instagramming about recently – we have the answer!

Fifteen months after the Olympic Games, some of the best players in the world are set to play in Rio de Janeiro again as the city hosts the second edition of the Military Beach Volleyball World Championships this week.

Thirty teams – 20 for the men’s tournament and 10 for the women’s – from nine countries will compete from Wednesday (November 8) until Sunday (November 12) in Rio, with pool play and quarterfinals being played at the CCFEx (Brazilian Army Physical Training Center). The semifinals and medal matches set to take place at Rio Olympic Tennis Center, one of the venues of Rio 2016.

Hosts Brazil will field a strong men’s team highlighted by the reigning world champions Evandro Goncalves and Andre Loyola. Evandro, who won the first edition of the tournament, in Warendorf, Germany, teaming with Vitor Felipe, and Andre are looking forward to end the year on a high competing at home.

“It will be a new experience to me,” said Andre, who became the youngest World Champ when lifting the title in Vienna in August.

“Evandro has played in the first edition and we believe the level is going to be higher now as several countries are investing more in military sports. The venues are very nice and we are excited to play and hopefully close the season with other world title, now in the military tournament.”

Also representing Brazil in the men’s tournament will be Olympic champion Bruno Schmidt, who will pair with Pedro Solberg as Alison Cerutti is injured, Alvaro Filho/Saymon Barbosa, Guto Carvalhaes/Vitor Felipe and Hevaldo Sabino/George Wanderley. China, Germany, Iran, Latvia, Palestine, Sri Lanka and The Netherlands (with two teams each) and Burkina Faso (one) will also compete.

In the women’s side, Brazil, Burkina Faso, China, Germany (who won the first edition with Julia Sude and Chantal Laboureur) and Sri Lanka will field two teams each. The host country will be represented by Agatha Bednarczuk/Duda Lisboa and Larissa França/Ana Patrícia Ramos.
