There’s little time for the stars of beach volleyball to take a breather as the next stop on the FIVB World Tour continues in China this week!

Just days after the curtain came down at the Xiamen Open the tour snakes its way 300 km north up the Chinese coast for the Fuzhou Open which kicks-off today.

Another mouth-watering line-up of the world’s best beach volleyball players descend on the bustling metropolis which is home to seven million people and thousands of beach volleyball fans!

Fuzhou is hosting a world tour event for the fourth year on the spin and once again it promises to be as exciting and competitive as ever with 106 individual teams going toe-to-toe across the men’s and women’s tournaments.

If you cast your minds back 12 months, you’ll remember Germans Markus Böckermann and Lars Flüggen toppled Dutch duo Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen to win gold in the men’s final.

But neither the champions or silver medallists from last year are in China this time around which could leave the door open for 2015 bronze medallists Youssef Krou and Edouard Rowlandson (FRA) or provisional top seeds Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena (USA) to claim the title.

It’s a different story in the women’s half of the draw though, with reigning champions Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas (CAN) back to defend their title.

They face strong competition from last year’s silver medallists Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude (GER) and don’t rule out 2015 bronze medallists and 2014 winners April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings (USA). The in-form pair are aiming for a fourth straight tour medal after two silvers and one bronze in their last three competitions which includes third-place at Xiamen last week.

As ever it promises to be another fast-paced, all-action, super competitive week on the sand as the teams eye the all-important qualification points towards participation at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer.
