Nothing is as constant as change – that’s also the motto in beach volleyball regulations. As usual, the three best teams of one pool are going to advance into the next round. But the way the best three teams are determined has changed now.

So far, the result of the individual matches mattered more than the total ratio of points throughout all matches combined. From now on, the point ratio is more important than the set ratio. The change was made to keep up the importance of the third pool play, even though it’s a faceoff between the winner of the first two pool plays and the team which lost two pool plays.
