The Brazil Olympic Committee (COB) announced on Tuesday, the six personalities, including FIVB beach volleyball world champions Alison/Bruno and Agatha/Barbara, who are vying for the Athlete of the Year awards in the Brazil Olympic Awards 2015.

A jury of journalists, officials, former athletes and sports personalities carried out the selection of nominees for Athlete of the Year.

In the Female Athlete of the Year category, Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas were nominated with Ana Marcela Cunha (marathon swimming) and Fabiana Murer (athletics). Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt were nominated in the Male Athlete of the Year category alongside Isaquias Queiroz (canoeing) and Marcelo Melo (tennis).

The winners of the Athlete of the Year awards will be announced during the Brazil Olympic Awards ceremony on December 15 at the Teatro Bradesco in Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to the six nominees for the Athlete of the Year awards, the COB announced the best athletes of 2015 in each of 49 sports, who will also be honoured on December 15 at the ceremony. The event will also be a tribute to Brazilian medallists at the Pan American Games Toronto 2015 held in July.

The COB selected players or pairs – four males and four females – for the Fans’ Choice Athlete of the Year. These are the athletes who stood out during the season, marking Brazilian sports greatness in the year 2015. Alison/Bruno are included in the fan-voting list, together with Ana Marcela Cunha (marathon swimming), Erika Miranda (judo), Fabiana Murer (athletics), Isaquias Queiroz (canoeing), Marcelo Mello (tennis), Thiago Pereira (swimming) and Yane Marques (modern pentathlon).
