FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals runners-up USA’s Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena came from behind to pull a dramatic 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 19-17) victory over Canada’s Sam Pedlow and Grant O’Gorman in the men’s gold medal contest at the Tobago Beach Volleyball Tournament, the final stage of the 2015 NORCECA Circuit. The veteran American duo used their experience and ability to overcome the young Canadian pair in the decisive match. The team of Dalhausser and Lucena scored 500 Olympic points for their victory while Pedlow and O’Gorman earned 450. Ontiveros/Virgen defeated Piña/Quesada 2-0 (22-20, 21-14) for the bronze medal.

“This is a big tournament for us going towards the Olympics and we played a lot of great teams like the Canadians and the Cubans,” Dalhausser said. “We didn’t play very well out of our pool but recovered to do well at the end.”

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Fuzhou Open 2015 champions Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas combined to win the women’s gold medal at the Tobago Beach Volleyball Tournament, the final event of the 2015 NORCECA Circuit on Sunday. Canadians Broder and Valjas excelled in defense and served with precision to beat Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat of the United States 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) in the decisive match of the tournament. This victory earned Broder and Valjas 500 points in the rankings towards the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Fendrick and Sweat collected 450.

“I am extremely proud about finishing the season this way and we can’t ask for a better year and a better ending,” Broder said. “We came here determined to win and it is very sweet to get the victory. USA are a very strong team and made us work hard for the win.”

Valjas added: “Our aggressive serves were the key for us today, but we played a solid overall game. We are really happy with this victory in front of the people of Tobago, who have shown a lot of energy. It was a great honor to play for them.”
