Vasiliki Arvaniti and Panagiota Karagkouni have wasted no time in making a successful return to the beach together as they made it two World Tour golds in three tournaments by winning the two-star tournament in Cambodia at the weekend.

The Greek pair, reunited after two seasons off the sand, saw off the American challenge of Amanda Dowdy and Corrine Quiggle 21-14, 21-17 in the gold medal match in Phnom Penh.

Having already won first prize in a one-star event in Slovenia in November, Arvaniti and Karagkouni won seven of their nine matches in the Cambodian capital, coming through two rounds of qualification.

The silver medal for Dowdy and Quiggle was special given it was the US pair’s first tournament together and Corrine’s first ever World Tour medal.

Meanwhile the bronze medal went the way of Japan’s Chiyo Suzuki and Yurika Sakaguchi, as they battled back from going a set down to beat Thailand’s Tanarattha Udomchavee and Rumpaipruet Numwong in three sets (19-21, 25-23, 15-12).

The next World Tour event for the women heads to Visakhapatnam in India, which kicks off on February 27. Among the entrants are Austrian twin sisters Nadine and Teresa Strauss and Commonwealth bronze medalist from Vanuatu Miller Pata.

Golden start for Bruno/Evandro in Brazil
