Legendary Swatch Major Series ambassador and one of our all-time favorite Olympic gold medalists Julius Brink can’t wait for the sand to start flying in the 2017 season.

The hero of London 2012 got to see every dig and dive at all four Swatch Major Series stops last year in Hamburg, Poreč, Gstaad and Klagenfurt.

And with the mouthwatering start of the new season in Fort Lauderdale less than two months away now, Brink is already excited at the prospect of seeing the stars back in action on the sand.

“As I’m German I’m very happy we have the Major in Hamburg,” Brink said. “Germany will be pleased to see their golden girls back in Hamburg and Poreč is still growing and it is a great location on the coast. It is important to open up our sport to a wide range of fans all over the world.

“It’s a long calendar and for the Germans it is a good start in Fort Lauderdale in February because it’s very cold back home!”

Of course the beach volleyball world was rocked earlier this week when Swatch World Tour Finals champ and Olympic gold medalist Laura Ludwig revealed that she may miss the Fort Lauderdale Major following an operation on her shoulder.

But, as Laura told us after her and Kira Walkenhorst’s glorious victory at the Toronto Finals – their aim is to complete an unprecedented clean sweep of all the major tournaments by winning the European Championships when they come to Vienna in July.

“Everyone in the beach volleyball family is looking forward to it,” added Julius. “The Olympics are still fresh in mind with the images of the German girls finishing with gold and then Alison winning gold in the men’s after winning silver in London. They will have big aims for the world champs in Vienna.”

Sounds like the perfect season ahead, doesn’t it?

See you in Fort Lauderdale, Julius!
